Blumenort: Two Ministers Ordained, Baptisms Held

by Janice Harder

BLUMENORT, Man.—We have celebrated many exciting events in the church. On April 22, 2018, we celebrated the ordinations of Alain Reimer and James Driedger in a wonderful service where we encouraged them to keep on learning and serving the Lord wherever He plants them.

On May 6, 2018, five candidates participated in the Sunday morning baptism service. Austin Kehler, Leanna Giesbrecht, Daniel Mandel, Justin Reimer, and Kyra Sawatzky publicly declared their faith and trust in Christ and were baptized.

One short week later, on May 13 we had 13 families participate in a parent-child dedication ceremony. It was a joyful occasion for the church family.

We have a full summer of Bible Camp coming up in a few short weeks at Eagle Lake Bible Camp in Ontario. We are once again running a Summer VBS program from June 24-28. The theme is Time Lab: Discovering Jesus from Eternity Past to Eternity Future.

We also have our annual church in the park event together with the Ridgewood EMC at the community fair days on July 1. We thank you for your prayers as we celebrate these events together as a church, and as we work together to be the hands and feet of Jesus wherever we go.

Blumenort: Eight Baptized, Ladies’ Programs Thrive

by Janice Harder

BLUMENORT, Man.—On Nov. 26 2017, Pastor Anthony Reimer performed the baptismal ceremony for eight candidates. Rachel Cox, Jayda Brandt, Clarissa Brandt, Kailey Schroeder, Kristi Nerbas, Morgen Penner, Laticia Peters, and Adrian Petkua dedicated their lives to be servants of Christ through baptism. Prayers for strength and direction for these new followers are always appreciated.

In other church news, our ladies’ programs have been thriving this past year. We have done a secret prayer sister program for the past year and will have a reveal pizza party at the end of January 2018. As a participant myself I have found it very enjoyable and rewarding to keep a specific person in my prayers as well as uplifting her with notes and gifts throughout the past 12 months.

Mom’s Morning Out is a time of fellowship that we host in our church basement every other Tuesday morning. We invite moms with young children from the congregation and community to spend time in fellowship, devotions, and lots of fun activities, including meal preps, crafts, and testimonies.

Also there will be a ladies winter retreat on March 2-4, 2018, at Camp Cedarwood. We pray that it will be a time of rest, encouragement, and fellowship for the ladies of our congregation.

Blumenort: Syrian Family, New Youth Pastoral Couple

by  Janice Harder

BLUMENORT, Man.—Wonderful things have been happening in our church this fall. To begin with, this refugee report from Irma Plett who is working closely with the refugee family: “After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb” (Rev. 7:9).

In late September a young Syrian couple with three small children arrived in our community. With the help of MCC and the Canadian government, we are seeking to provide refuge and support for them as they try to put a traumatic past behind them and build a safe future for their children.

This first year holds numerous great challenges for them, so we are trying to ease their load by helping them learn English, get a Manitoba driver’s license, buy a vehicle, find medical and dental care, set up banking, find furniture and warm winter clothing at prices they can afford, connect to other Arabic-speaking people in the area, and build a community of friends who will continue to care for them once our year of official support is over. We do it all in the name of Christ, hoping and praying that they will come to know Him and His Love, and one day join that multitude praising Him before His throne.

After much prayer, on Nov. 1, 2016, the church welcomed Mitchell and Becca Martens as our new youth pastoral couple. Mitchell says, “The church has been very welcoming,” and that they are looking forward to making this their new home. Prayer support is welcomed for this young couple as they move to our church body and settle into their new position.

On Nov. 17 we had a Refresh Worship night. What a wonderful time of worshipping and praising our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!

On Dec. 4 we also had five baptismal candidates come forward to dedicate their lives to God and this church. Dawsyn Froese, Karenna Ginter, Mackenzie Klassen, Jeremy Reimer, and Jodi Thiessen gave their testimonies and were baptized. Please carry these young people your prayers and encouragement as they live out their faith in Jesus.
