The Cross and Christmas

by Eleanor Lee Gustaw

The Star that shone one glorious night
Held a message of a king’s pure Light.
Where far away this child was born;
His royal line of Heavenly throne.

I wonder if the shepherds knew;
The wisemen, too, of all things true,
That filled the world with joyous song,
Of angels’ chorus sweet and long?

This little child born this night
Had come to bring the world His Light,
Where life in Him would ever shine,
And hold the cross to hearts, even mine.

With gladness and great joy they sang,
The angels’ song to earth that rang.
For there that starry night Christ came;
His love and power to all proclaim!
